Law Office of Bruce W. Somers - Sonoma County California Family Law Attorney

Bankruptcy Overview

If you are having financial problems, I can provide a clear explanation of all your options which might include bankruptcy. My job is to make sure you understand the process and help you come out of the process in the best possible condition.

Bankruptcy has its upsides. It is designed to allow you to control your debts and get a fresh start. In a Chapter 7 bankruptcy you can eliminate most debts (usually not recent income taxes, student loans or criminal fines) and you can keep many if not all your assets. You can protect a certain amount of equity in your home, car, retirement. Most people find they can protect all their assets.

If you have too many assets to protect, the type of debts that will not be eliminated in a Chapter 7, or make too much income, you can enter into a Chapter 13 bankruptcy where you pay a certain amount of money each month and the bankruptcy court holds off the creditors.

First interview is no cost to you.
